Last Call and Thanks to All!

Mon Jun 16, 2008 at 06:53:43 AM PDT

Today, Democracy for America will be making decisions on awardees for their Netroots Nation Scholarship program.  In the end, 121 applications submitted, not 128.  (There were a few duplicates.)  I don't know how many scholarships will be awarded yet, for two reasons.

  1. DFA hasn't told me what the totals from over the weekend donations is yet.
  1. There's still time to donate this morning.  This is the last call for that.  (Donate here.)

To that end, OPOL says he's throwing a last $100 in the pot, and challenges others to do the same.  And John Cusack?  If you are reading this?  Send me an email that you are sorry you can't attend, but would love to sponsor someone else.  (Just like other Kossacks with a lot less discretionary income than you have already done.)

By any means possible, I'd like to still add one more to the total scholarships to be awarded.  And right now is the absolute last chance

I want to give special thanks to everyone who helped out with this effort by posting diaries to support it over the last couple of weeks.  Some of the early ones didn't get a lot of attention.  They were posted during that last, hectic primary week when stuff like the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee Meeting, and the deluge of superdelegates, and so on.  Al Gore, superdelegate, still hasn't endorsed!  Thanks to all the diarists:

  • Several others offered diaries which never found their way onto the schedule - you know who you are!!!

If I forgot any (I hope I didn't!) please zoom me an email, and I will edit.  And lots of people took up the cause by posting diaries to promote applicants they were rooting for (in some cases, themselves...)  You all helped raise visibility for the program, which contributed, too.

And, of course, thanks to all the donors.  Not all of them make public announcements, so I'm going to respect privacy here.  A few, I brokered directly between donor and recipient when they wanted to skip the DFA portal.  You all know who you are, and your generosity is what is making this all fly.

Thanks, too, to all the applicants.  You will not all be funded, which is a shame.  But what a lift to the spirit to everyone who took the time to review them and vote on them.  And about a quarter of you will make everyone else's experience in Austin all the richer.  Thanks to all those who reviewed the applications and voted on them, too.

Thanks to the folks at DFA for providing the insitutional home to make this all possible.  Thanks even to me!  It's been a bit of work to coordinate this effort, so I probably deserve it.

Finally, I put together an email alert list, which helped make these diaries more visible.  We got quite a few on the Rec list over the last week, and that has helped, too.

Oh, and last, but decided not least:  Thanks to kid oakland and all of last year's donors who birthed this component of Yearly Kos last year.  There'd be nothing without k/o!!

Thanks, everybody.  This has been a community effort.  As soon as I know the total number of scholarships to be awarded, I shall add that to the diary.  And once the winners are announced, expect another diary on that.  It will probably take a few days, because they'll need to confirm with each one that they still can/will accept it.

Job well done, everyone.  But don't forgot OPOL's last challenge.  And the last call for donations.  We still have the chance to add one more two more scholarships.  Donate button is on the right side of this page, where you can also read about the applicants.
